In his third and final blog from England Lions’ tour Bangladesh, Essex fast bowler Tymal Mills reflects on wearing the Three Lions for the first time.
We ended our stay in Sylhet with a comfortable win by six wickets but unfortunately lost the ODI series 3-2. We then headed to Dhaka, our final destination for the tour, for a two-match T20 series and were greeted by the city’s infamous traffic jams. It takes ages to get anywhere!
We were given a night out on our arrival and invited to spend the evening at the Australian Embassy. It was a nice break to get away from the cricket and we got to chat to Bangladesh coach Stuart Law. The boys enjoyed picking his brain and learned a lot from listening to his experiences.
We got off to a perfect start in the T20 series, winning the first match by 32 runs with Jason [Roy] smashing a quick 40 and Bucky [Nathan Buck] doing the damage with the ball with a three-fer.
Unfortunately, the second match didn’t go quite so well. Bucky again bowled well, taking three more wickets, and Tom Maynard scored 68 but we couldn’t quite overhaul their score and drew the series 1-1.
And that ends the Bangladesh leg of the Lions winter! It’s certainly been a challenging and eye-opening experience, testing the lads in many different areas. We’ve all learnt a lot, for sure.
The majority of the squad have gone to Sri Lanka for the second leg of the tour but Tom Maynard, Jason Roy and Simon Kerrigan and myself have headed home, with Jade Dernbach, Craig Kieswetter, Samit Patel and Chris Woakes coming in. We wish all the lads well!!
