Notts Sport Laying Strong Foundations

High-quality practice facilities are crucial in helping young cricketers to improve. Notts Sport are playing their part in aiding the growth of the next generation.

As part of a substantial improvement programme at Oundle School in Peterborough – which also took in hockey pitches – Notts Sport built a brand new state-of-the-art 20-lane cricket practice facility to provide the perfect environment for player improvement – and enjoyment.

In all, it involved 10 non-turf lanes and 10 natural turf lanes, in a project that sought to match the school’s ambitions for a) elite performance and b) higher capacity.

The nets have an extended run-up area to allow full coverage for bowlers, as well as doubling as an additional training and viewing area.

The facility also boasts a surrounding walkway for spectators, equipment storage area and an adjacent natural turf grass net area. Oundle’s director of cricket, the former England, Lancashire and Hampshire batsman John Crawley, says the new facilities have proved extremely popular.

“We have a big link with a Northamptonshire Premier League club and their cricketers use them and look forward to it massively every time they come along, so it’s wonderful for everyone. Notts Sport has put in one of the best facilities in the world – it’s excellent.”

Artificial grass surfaces are an increasingly popular choice for schools and cricket clubs in the UK and throughout the world – and with a Notts Sport solution you can enjoy more play, more often.

Consistency and durability are Notts Sport’s calling cards. Their unique pitch designs have been developed and rigorously tested to achieve consistent performance throughout their lifetime. Quality is assured at every stage: from the selection of raw materials and components to installation.

The Envelope System NG12 system – used at Oundle – and the NottsBase ‘D’ System NG12 – used at Lord’s and elsewhere – are approved by the ECB and exclusive to Notts Sport. Both utilise a top surface carpet and full length underlay shock pad.

A shock pad offers player comfort and enhances pitch performance. The pad’s excellent load-bearing properties will also help protect the chosen base from disturbance during play, reducing maintenance.

From a performance point of view, the Notts Sport surfaces are designed to offer both spin and seam movement, as well as good underfoot grip, and have recently been the choice of the MCC at Lord’s as well as Leicestershire CCC at Grace Road.
