What Is The Importance Of Coaching?

“To progress in sport takes practice and coaching, and to achieve mastery of a skill takes 10,000 hours of purposeful and specific practice”
Malcolm Gladwell, Outliers: The Story Of Success

To make your practice purposeful and specific you need guidance from a qualified coach

International/national/club sports teams have coaches and/or managers guiding their performances and many top individual sport players have personal coaches. The Williams sisters were famously taught tennis by their father Richard, Butch Harmon taught golf to Tiger Woods, Jurgen Grobler coached Steve Redgrave and the rest of the famous four to Olympic rowing gold and Angelo Dundee was coach to Muhammad Ali.

Teams have taken specific coaching to a new level and have specialised skills coaches; American football teams have a defence coach, an offense coach and a kicking coach, the England cricket team have Graham Gooch as there batting coach and Bruce French as their wicketkeeping coach, and Ray Clemence is England’s football goalkeeping coach.

Coaching by definition is:

“A process that enables learning and development to occur and thus performance to improve”
Eric Parsloe, The Manager as Coach and Mentor

To develop our skills further we need to keep learning to be pushed out of our comfort zone and extend our boundaries to produce a more skilful performance.
Serious Cricket offers players of all ages and abilities a variety of courses and one-to-one coaching to improve their game.

Our courses include:

Masterclasses for 12+ year olds

Test your batting/bowling/fielding technique, game play and fitness on our intensive day long course. You will be in the nets, on the bowling machine and play in an indoor game. A great way to practice your skills before the season starts!
