Some of the proposed squads on here are an embarrassment haha, seen one with no Cook and one without Jimmy Anderson, Broad, Stokes and Jonny Bairstow aha.

    Squad should be:

    Bairstow (wk)

Woakes (tough on him but with Stokes do you need two all-rounders, but will easily slot back in if required)
Foakes (in case we need more batting, meaning he can take the gloves and play Bairstow as batsman)

  5. Daniel kenny said

Hamed has to be in the squad as well as a number of other young players to see how they play in test cricket maybe put bell in their for experience.

  6. Ewen McConville said

Forget Vince, Ballance, Finn. Must get Buttler into Test team, better keeper than Bairstow and explosive batsman. Play Bairstow as specialist batter. Batty goes as “insurance” spinner in case the others get slaughtered!

  7. Paul said

Interesting nobody is mentioning Duckett.Excellent player of spin

  8. Graham Downey said

Peter Such just missed the cut.

Cook Hales Roy Root Borthwick Bell Bairstow Buttler Stokes Woakes Patel Rashid Moeen Wood Plunkett Anderson – batting pace swing and lots of spin options

Introduce some new boys. I prefer Jennings to Stoneman and have been very impressed by Foakes and young Sam Curran. Gubbins and Hameed could represent the future so get them in as well
    Curran S

moeen ali for me is staying in his current position down the order as changing it has caused him problems in the past. even though hameed has talent I’m not taking him, it would be tough for him in his first test series, as a young player, playing in the sub continent, its a big ask. my starting XI is cook, hales, root, balance, barstow, stokes, moeen, woakes, wood, broad, anderson. I’m defiantly taking rashid as i think he would also have a part to play.

Not a bad side even if I say so myself :)

    Can’t make your selector work.
But recall for Bell. If we go with inexperienced squad I believe we will be at the mercy of India. Even Bangladesh could pull off a result with conditions in their favour. Can’t keep relying on Cook and Root with Bairstow to bail out. Selection has been abysmal. Fancy getting into this mess after three Test Series to try out players. No wiser with the current lot.

Time to jettison Hales, Vince and Balance. Get some youngsters bedded in for the longer term. Hence Bell-Drummond and Hameed and Hildreth is long overdue a go. Batty must go, as he is the best spinner in the country. Wood goes instead of Broad, because he brings extreme pace and finally Sam Curran can be anything he chooses and whilst very young, he is spunky and can bat and bowl.

  19. Karen said

Hard to pick! Think Wood and Rashid will do great

  20. Nick Brothers said

Others = James Foster & Dean Cosker = Specialists!!

Borthwick would be both useful as a top order batsman (to replace Vince probably) and as a part-time leg spinner too.

  23. Domfriel said

    Xi as follows
Cook hameed root bell stokes Ali bairstow woakes rashid leach Anderson.
Wood very close, no broad, purely as want 3 spinners and don’t feel need him and Anderson. Clarke will be awesome and is the best uncapped middle order batsman around imo. Hameed just has that air of a quality player, bell Drummond too.

Recall for bell. Why? Well because you should t drop a player like him unless you know the replacement is better, after cook root he is our best test player still.

Definitely a difficult squad to pick, however ultimately I think there are some big calls that need to be made. Vince looks lost at test level for the moment, while Ballance has a good temperament but his technique, even though we will be playing on slow pitches, is flawed. Hameed and Clarke look top players while Rayner has been consistently overlooked and I’m glad AOC decided to give him a place on the selector. Only change I’d make is perhaps an unfit Finn for Billings to play as a batsman. Buttler is the 1st choice keeper.

An inexperienced but super talented squad

  33. Colin Mehigan said

Two uncapped batsmen but Habeed is an exhilarating talent and Nick Browne deserves a chance at nailing down an opener alongside his teammate and captain
